The University is entering its fourth week of strike action.

The Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), is urging both parties to end the strike and bring students back into class.

An open letter pleads with both sides to end the strike in a fair and balanced manner.

“As the third largest employer in North Bay, Nipissing University has a responsibility to come together and work through these differences collaboratively with faculty – this is the nature and purpose of collective bargaining,” wrote Rejean Hoilett and Gabrielle Ross-Marquette, the Chairperson and National Executive Representative of CFS Ontario respectively.

Nipissing University students were sent an email on Monday stating that the Reading Week would be removed from the winter semester and that students could possibly return earlier in January to begin classes depending on the length of the strike.

"The impact on Nipissing students, due to uncertainty moving forward with the rest of the academic year, has resulted in significant mental, emotional and financial strain. The doubt faced by many students prevents them from seeking employment opportunities, and leaves their academic and financial success in peril," says the letter.
