Shoppers converge on Sears for liquidation sale

'The sales are not that great, but sales will be better in the coming weeks but it is still very busy'

The parking lot near the Sears entrance at Northgate Shopping Centre was packed this morning as shoppers congregated to the well-known department store for the first day of liquidation sales.

Shoppers found the majority of liquidation prices were 20% off with some items such as luggage, listed at 30% off.

"The sales are not that great, but sales will be better in the coming weeks but it is still very busy," said one shopper with bags in hand.

The liquidation sales at all the Sears locations are expected to last between 10 to 14 weeks.

Sears Canada timed its liquidation sales to take advantage of the busy holiday shopping season.

The national retailer has been in creditor protection since June but was unable to find a buyer which would allow it to keep operating.
