Severe thunderstorm watch in effect

As of 5:30 PM EDT Wednesday 24 June 2009, Environment Canada issued the following Severe thunderstorm watch for
the North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa and West Nipissing - French River areas.

Potential for severe thunderstorms developing this afternoon and early this evening. This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail and damaging winds.

Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements. If threatening weather approaches take immediate safety precautions.

A warm and moist air mass over the regions will provide fuel for thunderstorms through the afternoon due to the approach of a slow moving cold front. The cold front currently lies along a northeast to southwest line through gogama and is moving slowly eastward. The main threats are heavy downpours damaging winds, hail and frequent lightning.
