OPP are searching the Callander Bay area for a missing 29-year-old man from Brazil who went missing in Lake Nipissing around 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The Powassan OPP received a missing swimmer call at 2:45 on Sunday.  Police say the man went missing after swimming off of a boat about one kilometre from the shore.

He began having difficulty swimming due to the powerful waves and went under the water and did not resurface.

An extensive search for the swimmer was conducted by members of the Powassan OPP Detachment and North Bay OPP Marine Unit. The search continues today with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU).
