The shuttle mission would be the first flight in almost a year and only the second since the 2003 Columbia disaster.

The Discovery was first launched in 1984, and is the oldest space shuttle in service.

Canadian Roberta Bondar flew on Discovery during Mission STS-42 in January 22, 1992.
