St. Joseph-Scollard Hall students and staff were able to raise over $3000.00 to purchase protective gear for Ukrainian civilians who continue to enlist for military service against the unprovoked invasion by Russia.

On Friday April 21, the Bears began their day with prayer and the Ukrainian anthem.  Students who recently came from Ukraine and now attend SJSH said they had not heard their anthem since having to leave their country.

The SAC designed and sold "Peace for Ukraine" t-shirts under the guidance of teacher advisor Zophie Nucara, who also designed the shirts.

SAC T-shirt sales accounted for $1500.00 of the grand total and the remaining $1500.00 was raised from a dress-down day as well as an ALL-DAY collection in the Bears cafeteria.

SAC held and assembly later in the day opening with a song by Ukrainian student Oleksandra Zahrebelnyi, words of peace and support by SAC members and SAC president Jude Zappala.

The SAC along with the students from Ukraine presented The Vest Project with a $3000.00 cheque to purchase equipment on their behalf.  Co-founders of The Vest Project, Lori Burns and Cindie D’Agostino were overwhelmed by the students initiative and compassion.

The SJSH student, faculty and SAC said they will continue to support their brothers and sisters of Ukraine.
