As another school year winds to a close, parents and students are beginning to make plans for summer activities. This year, the Near North District School Board is pleased to offer students a number of options for summer school across the district.

Grade seven and eight students are invited to participate in the Summer School Literacy and Numeracy Program. The non-credit summer session will review basic skills, demonstrate expectations and assist in preparation for the next grade level in language or mathematics. Delivery of this program is only during the month of July, leaving plenty of time for students to enjoy other summer activities. At Chippewa Secondary School, the program is offered from July 4-28, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. At Almaguin Highlands Secondary School, F.J. McElligott Secondary School, Northern Secondary School and Parry Sound High School, the program is offered from July 4-27, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Secondary students can choose from a number of credits courses available over the summer, throughout the district. Math, English, and various science credits are offered at the following secondary schools: Almaguin Highlands, Chippewa, F.J. McElligott, Northern and Parry Sound. A full list of courses is available on Board’s website.

The Near North District School Board is also pleased to offer students off-site opportunities to earn secondary credits during the summer months including through the TOROS production of CATS and at the Canadian Ecology Centre.

Registration forms and course information, for all summer programs, are available at local Near North schools or online at www.nearnorthschools.ca, under Summer School. Registration deadlines vary with each program.
