On Monday, November 12, 2007, the entire staff of the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord will gather at École secondaire Franco-Cité in Sturgeon Falls to celebrate the Board’s ten years of existence.
During this system-wide day of reflection upon the Board’s identity building project regarding faith and culture, the staff will take part in a reflective and planning activity lead by Father Rémi Lessard. It’s in January 1997, as President of the Association française des conseils scolaires de l’Ontario, that he declared: “This reform offers governance by and for Francophones, accompanied with equitable financing. We are given the opportunity to establish our own style of governance and to define the quality of French-language education.
In fact, it was on January 14, 1997, that the government announced that Francophones would now be able to govern their own schools. The government then foresaw the creation of new French-language school boards on January 1, 1998: a historical decision.
“I am delighted by this opportunity to gather all staff members of the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord to celebrate our achievements over the last ten years. It is important to reflect upon our language, our faith and our culture, and to continue to provide a first-class education to all Francophones in the region... our way!” declared Mr. Raymond Lessard, Director of Education.
The Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord has 17 French-language Catholic schools, 14 elementary and 3 secondary. Over 3300 students attend a CSCFN school, covering the area including the municipalities of Thorne, Mattawa, Astorville, Bonfield, North Bay and West Nipissing
