North Bay – The Canada Day long weekend safety first way of thinking begins Friday June 28, 2013 due to the very busy travel day that is expected. Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be out in full force to work along with the public to ensure that we all enjoy a fun, but most importantly, a safe weekend. You can expect to see patrols on our highways, waterways as well as off road trails.

“The purpose of this plan is Saving Lives on Ontario’s highways, trails and waterways through Professionalism, Leadership, and Visibility. We will use proactive, enforcement and educational means to meet this plan. We will be targeting aggressive drivers, distracted drivers, those not wearing seatbelts and motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.” – Sergeant Tim SHEPPARD; North Bay Detachment

This is regarded by many as the first official weekend of summer; as well as our children are excited to be done school. Let us all work together to ensure that come Tuesday morning, we can all reflect on what a fun weekend it was instead of reeling in the aftermath of a preventable tragedy.
