Team Russia scored two in the tenth, one of the points on the final stone, to beat Team USA 6-5 and take the bronze medal at the Ford World Women's Curling Championship at Memorial Gardens this afternoon.
American skip Jamie Sinclair was in tears after the match, overcome with emotion after shaking hands with the winning team.
For the Russians, it was a fifth consecutive World Championship medal, and they celebrated with a group hug and high fives in front of cheering North Bay fans, appreciative of both teams' efforts.
The Russians won a silver last time out, with three straight bronze in preceding years.
Sinclair was too heavy on her last shot, a draw to try and force Russia to take one and send the game into an extra end with the U.S. holding the hammer,
The shot slid into the eight foot, allowing skip Victoria Moiseeva to draw the four-foot to score two.
After the game, Sinclair tweeted, "What a battle...hard fought to the final rock but we just couldn’t pull it off. Congrats to Russia on winning bronze. Proud of our team, the fight we showed all week to make it this far and the chance to represent @TeamUSA. We will be back!"
The gold medal final takes place between Canada and Sweden this afternoon at 3 p.m. at Memorial Gardens and is sold out.
