Candidates for office in rural areas around North Bay are getting their chance to shine.

The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce will host "Meet & Greet the Candidates" events in two areas in the district.

Sunday, October 19

For Mattawa, Mattawan and Papineau-Cameron

At the Mattawa Golden Age Club, 464 rue Poplar

From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Wednesday, October 22

For Callander and East Ferris

At the Callander Community Centre, 1984 Swale Street

From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Patti Carr, Executive Director of the Chamber stated “we take in a large 'district' and felt this was an opportunity for those areas not hosting their own events, to have a venue for candidates to meet with constituents and make informed votes."

The Chamber has asked the candidates in the Mattawa, Mattawan, Papineau-Cameron, Callander and East Ferris to provide short bios and platforms which will be shown at the event, as well as small booklet format that will be posted on the Chamber website.

Patti Carr, Executive Director also noted “this provides the candidates with one-on-one discussions on issues affecting their municipality or township to listen to voters and find solutions if they are elected to their respective councils.  This is not mandatory by any means, but for these areas that aren’t hosting their own event, it at least allows the candidates an opportunity to present their platform.”

Once again, we encourage voters to be informed and if you haven’t received your voters card, call your municipality of township office.  Voting Day is Monday, October 27, 2014 – make your vote count!
