North Bay Police
News Release

*******************

The North Bay Police Service is concerned with the amount of bicycle infractions that are continually occurring on the City's streets, endangering cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. Cyclists are reminded that it is important to obey the rules of the road, wear proper safety equipment, and have the necessary equipment on their bicycles.

Failure to do so may result in fines to the cyclist and/ or their parents, should they be under the age of 16.
It is illegal to ride a bicycle on a sidewalk in North Bay (By-law 2002-01), and this will be enforced in the downtown core, as there are signs clearly posted.

According to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario all cyclists must have a light on their bicycle after dark, have a horn or bell on their bicycle at all times, and must use proper arm signals when turning or stopping.

Any cyclist under the age of 18 must wear an approved helmet. It is illegal to ride two on a bicycle. For a complete list of all bicycle rules and regulations please contact Cst. Merv Shantz at the Traffic Office at 497-5555 ext 538.
