Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal MP Anthony Rota officially takes office today, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet were sworn in this morning on Parliament Hill.

Some political prognosticators in Ottawa had Rota slotted in as a cabinet minister representing Northern Ontario, but the North Bay native was left off the 31-member cabinet list.

Thunder Bay's Patricia Hadju was given the Status of Women Cabinet position.

As the Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming from 2004 to 2011, Rota served as the Liberal Critic for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario and the National Liberal Caucus Chair.
