MP-elect Anthony Rota came within a hair of scoring the riding's highest vote total in yesterday's federal election.

He picked up an unofficial  25,281 votes.

That's just four votes shy of former Liberal MP Bob Wood's 1993 total of 25,285 when he won every poll in the riding.

Voter turnout last night was 69%.

While Rota increased his total from 2011 by 9,804 votes, all other parties saw their totals drop.

Aspin dropped by 1,175.

Kathleen Jodouin dropped 789 votes from Rona Eckert's 2011 total, and The Green Party's Nicole Peltier dropped 1,241 votes from Scott Daley's total.

The win gives Rota a 4-1 record in federal elections.

The former city councillor beat mayor Al McDonald in 2004, former deputy mayor Peter Chirico in 2006, lawyer Joe Sinicrope in 2008, lost to Aspin in 2011 and then beat Aspin this time around.
