Rock Choir carolling for Santa Fund

Carolling is a fun holiday tradition that helps connect people

The North Bay Rock Choir has been busy spreading holiday cheer this season carolling outdoors across the city to raise money for the Santa Fund.

The group is maintaining physical distancing during the outings.

“Bringing happiness in these difficult times is the choir's main focus. It is important to us to share positive messages of hope and togetherness through song”, says the choir’s Director, Heather Smith.

Based on the Rock Choir model developed in the UK, this choir is dedicated to singing time-tested, fun radio tunes in three and four-part harmony.

The group is an informal collective of amateur singers who sing to have fun and to "bring joy in these uncertain times," says Smith, founder of Rock Choir.

The choir was invited to sing outside of apartment buildings and retirement homes. The choir sang a mix of Christmas carols, including Yule Be Rocking, an upbeat medley that has become its anthem this season.

Carolling is a fun holiday tradition that helps connect people. For the North Bay Rock Choir, it was important to keep that tradition alive while respecting important COVID-19 protocols to share a little Christmas joy during this very difficult time. Singing for people helps fight isolation and loneliness in a small way.

The choir has raised over $200 for the North Bay Santa Fund, a valuable organization that helps so many community members who may otherwise face a bleak Christmas this year.
