North Bay councillor Scott Robertson sent in a leave of absence letter to the city clerk Sunday morning.

Robertson told BayToday the request is effective immediately and lasts until the end of the federal election.

The first-term councillor is running for the NDP, and has already started door knocking.

He says, so far the dominant comment is about the calling of the election itself.

"People are mad. This election is totally unnecessary."
