Rideshare has been a hot topic in the past few weeks, and now a town hall meeting is planned to get input from those affected by the change.

It will be hosted by the North Bay Police Service on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at the Elks Lodge, 325 Elks Lane.

"Discussions will take place on the City of North Bay Taxi By-Law in relation to new rideshare businesses looking to operate in the city.," says an NBPS news release. "Input will be sought from involved stakeholders about changes to the existing by-Law in an effort to develop rules around the two business models that will strike a balance between allowing taxi companies to compete while welcoming new business opportunities to the city."

The release says the by-law amendments will be aimed at "helping to ensure the health and safety of both passengers and drivers, the protection of persons and property and to ensure consumer protection while at the same time, offering more options for travelling within North Bay."

Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Presenters will be given five minutes to share their opinions and concerns.

A total of 30 minutes has been allotted for presentations, and presenters must provide a copy of their presentation to the Deputy Chief at the North Bay Police Service by May 14th.

The rideshare program Uride has said it will be coming to North Bay this summer.

The rideshare initiative got a shot in the arm earlier in April when the North Bay Police Service admitted they do not have the ability at the current time to stop a ride share program coming to the city.  The Police Board manages the taxi licenses in the city and currently, a consultant is working with the board to create an updated taxi license bylaw which would also include rideshare services.
