A special Fat Bike Ride in honour of Jack Lyons will be taking place on Saturday in the area.

Mark Lyons, Jack's well-known father, connected with cycle enthusiast Connie Hergott in coordinating a new fundraising winter bike ride called, "Ride for Jack."

The fundraising fat bike ride is hosted by One Kids Place. The entry fee is a donation of $25.

Fat bike riders taking part will gather at the McPherson Drive Boat Launch in Corbeil and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Lyons says the event has already raised about $10,000 but he was looking to hit the $26,000 mark but money continues to come in.

"It has just blown up today," Lyons said Friday morning.

"We have a bunch of people that have bought and donated like crazy so we are really trying to move the needle, It is really amazing how much people have supported and helped so we are getting there."

Lyons will also be selling Ride for Jack shirts and socks at the site Saturday.

He says more than 10 months of work has been put into this event which honours his son Jack, who passed away last April.

Mark Lyons was excited and was hoping that his son would be part of the event.

"He was always happy on a bike, it just mellowed out his autism," said Mark about his Jack.

"It is something Jack could do and when he passed you get knocked down but this is where we want to go," said Lyons.

Mark Lyons believes fundraising for One Kids Place Autism Camps is a priority for him as statistics are revealing that the number of children diagnosed with autism is rising.
