North Bay’s Motorcycle Ride for Dad will take place tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. sharp!

Pre-registration begins today from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Canadian Tire parking lot on McKeown Ave in North Bay.

Ride day registration begins at 8 until 10 a.m. at the same location on Saturday morning and you can register in advance online at ridefordad.ca. There will be an opportunity on both days to come out and see all of the bikes and speak with the riders.

Dignitaries and celebrity ride captain Mitch Belanger will get the festivities under way at 10 and the bikes will leave sharply at 10:30.

The ride will be a day of fun for a serious cause. Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed men’s cancer. One in six Canadian men will be diagnosed with this disease, and twelve will die from it today.

“Prostate cancer is a needless killer for men,” said Terry Daigle, co-chair of the Nipissing chapter. “The more the community is aware and educated about prostate cancer, the less chance there is to lose the men in our lives to this terrible disease. The Motorcycle Ride for Dad not only raises funds to fight this disease, but it also gives men and their families a reason to talk about it”.

“This Ride attracts hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts from our region that want to give back to their community, but we also want non-riders to get involved by becoming a champion, making a donation, or volunteering at the event,” says Raymond Yelle co-chair. “Last years ride raised over $30,000 as well as awareness in the Nipissing region, and this year our objective is to raise an additional $40,000 and we need the communities support to reach these goals. We encourage everyone to reach deep into their pockets – do it for your dad, your brother, and your friends!”

One of the unique things about our fundraising efforts is that every dollar raised in our community stays in our community. Since 2008, 2600 motorcycle riders have registered for our ride. These riders have collected $200,000 in pledges. This year we are encouraging all of our riders to try and collect an extra $30 in pledges. If every participant collected an extra $30 in pledges it would impact our bottom line to the amount of $10,000. We would love to break the $40,000 barrier. Also, with the help of our local and national sponsors $260,000 has been donated towards our fight against this terrible disease. (Over a quarter of a million dollars)!!

And yes, “everyone can participate riders and non-riders alike” says Celebrity Ride Captain Mitch Belanger of Rogers Radio.

The TELUS Motorcycle Ride for Dad is Canada's largest annual motorcycle event dedicated to fighting prostate cancer through research and awareness. From its humble beginnings, the Ride for Dad has grown to include 30 cities in every province in the country. Today, more than 100,000 men, women and children have been involved, raising more than $8.7 million to fight prostate cancer.

Motorcycle riders, prostate cancer patients and their families, and non-riders can learn more about participating and donating by visitingwww.motorcycleridefordad.ca We encourage everyone to register online at www.motorcycleridefordad.ca because every $200.00 you pledge you receive a ballot into the draw for a brand new “custom” chopper.
