The MNR released the following update below for the East Fire Region for Friday June 29th.

HIGHLIGHTS:
• 7 new; 9 active fires
• 227 fires; 2833.5 hectares to date since Apr.1st

DETAILS:

There have been 7 new fires in the last 24 hours:
Parry Sound 17 – 0.1 hectare lightning fire that is not yet under control

Parry Sound 18 – 0.1 hectare lightning fire that has been called out
Pembroke 8 – 1.8 hectare fire that is being held
Pembroke 9 – 0.5 hectare lightning fire that is being held
Sudbury 63 – 0.5 hectare fire that is under control
Sudbury 64 – 0.2 hectare fire that is being held
Algonquin Park 2 – a 0.1 hectare fire that is being held
Active fires include:
Cochrane 20 & 22 – lightning fires west of Fort Albany
Sault Ste Marie 21 – a 2.0 hectare lightning fire that is being held

Please use caution with outdoor fires this long weekend, especially fireworks. The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations. Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.
