Chamber’s AGM Awards highlights:

President’s Award: At the discretion of the President, an award can be given to an individual, group or business. While it doesn’t happen often, this year President Glenn Cundari chose to award two deserving people: Barbara Taylor, Canadore College and Dennis Mock, Nipissing University. The President’s award was provided to Barbara and Dennis, as individuals who make a difference in the community as well as the uniqueness and economic benefits that the partnership of the education centre has within our region. President Cundari stated, “simply put, Chamber members have added to their bottom line with the work both Dennis and Barb are doing, not only for their students but our region. They have not only made a difference economically, but together, contribute to the overall self-esteem of North Bay and area. It’s my distinct pleasure to recognize them.”

Nugget Business of the Year Award: Steve Hardy, Managing Editor of the Nugget presented the award to Dave Hansman, Senior Vice President of J.S. Redpath Limited. J.S. Redpath Limited employs over 4,400 worldwide in 40 different countries, with the head office located here in North Bay. Recent advancements for this company in the mining sector was the unveiling of the Redbore 100, the most powerful raise drill in the world, designed and manufactured right here in North Bay.

Nipissing University/Canadore College Small Business of the Year Award: Presented by Al Carfagnini, Nipissing University and Barbara Taylor, Canadore College was accepted by Brenda McLay, Near North Laboratories Inc. Near North Laboratories Inc. employs 12 full time and 3 part-time staff and recently underwent an additional 1,500 sq ft expansion. Near North Laboratories Inc. provides environmental services for analytical testing of water, waste water, water and air sampling.

Betty Alcorn Memorial Award – Presented to the “Director of the Year”. Co-winners this year were Derek Shogren, Canadian Tire and Sean Lawlor, Lawlor & Associates.

Mary Ellen Horner Memorial Award – Presented to the “Volunteer of the Year”. The award went to Paul Daigle, Kennedy Insurance.
