Re-open St. Rita’s and Corpus Christi Churches Group
News Release

********************

Phillip Penna, former chair of the Corpus Christi Parish Pastoral Council, will host two public information sessions to present and discuss the efforts of two parishioner groups to re-open St. Rita’s and Corpus Christi Churches in North Bay, Ontario (Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie).

Former parishioners from these two parishes have formally appealed to the Congregation for the Clergy - a Vatican Church body - to declare invalid and revoke Bishop Jean-Louis Plouffe’s decrees to close and sell these two churches. Furthermore, the appeal for Corpus Christi includes a request that the sale of Corpus Christi Church be reversed.

Phillip Penna will present a complete history and analysis of the process which led to these two appeals, the arguments being posed in the appeals, and the possible outcomes of these appeals. He will also present information about similar cases in other jurisdictions,
particularly in the United States, to give a global and historical context for what it taking place here at the local level.

The first session will be held on Tuesday May 10, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the North Bay Public Library.

The second session will be held on Wednesday May 11, 2011 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Davedi Club here in North Bay.

All are welcome to attend. (Both facilities are accessible to persons with handicaps.)

For further information, please contact Phillip Penna at 705-474-1769 or by e-mail at either [email protected]
or [email protected]
