Serron Noel scored on a breakaway only 9 seconds into overtime as the Oshawa Generals foiled a Battalion comeback with a 5-4 win at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa on Family Day.

Noel took the feed behind Adam Thilander and walked in alone and faked Julian Sime to the forehand and then went backhand for the game-winner.

The Troops actually battled back from a 4-2 third-period deficit to force overtime and earn a point in the process.

With 2:23 remaining the Troops netted the equalizer as Justin Brazeau came down the left wing and beat Oshawa goalie Kyle Keyser short side for the equalizer to make it 4-4 with Sime heading to the Battalion bench for the extra attacker.

Adam McMaster brought the Troops within one as his one-timer on the power play beat Keyser at 8:25 of the third period.

The Generals got off to a good start in the opening frame as Allan McShane and Jack Studnicka gave the home side a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, the Battalion battled back as Luke Moncada scored only 15 seconds into the period which made it 2-1.

Matthew Struthers 18th of the campaign at the midway point of the second period evened things up at 2-2.

However, just over two minutes later Kenny Huether netted his 28th of the season on a power play to give the Generals the lead again.

It stayed that way until early in the third period when Danil Antropov took a backdoor feed from Domenico Commisso at 2:26 which gave the Gens the 4-2 lead.

Julian Sime turned away 25 of the 30 shots he faced.

The Battalion record falls to 26-22-7-2 on the season.

The Battalion is back on the ice Wednesday night as they host the Sudbury Wolves.  Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
