A new forest management plan is being developed for the Nipissing Forest, and members of the public are invited to participate in an introductory workshop on Thursday evening to learn more about how they can become involved.

Hosted by Northwatch's Forest Project, the one hour workshop will be followed by a discussion of workshop participants' interests in the Nipissing Forest, and how those might be expressed in the forest management planning process.

The forest management planning process consists of five stages, with various levels of public participation available in each stage. Planning is underway for operations in the Nipissing Forest that will be conducted between 2009 and 2019. The current stage of planning - the second of the five stages - sets overall direction for the forest management plan, including harvest levels and road planning.

The Forest Project is a multi-year initiative to support public participation in forest management planning. Northwatch, a regional coalition of environmental and social organizations across northeasten Ontario, has its main office in North Bay. The workshop will begin at 7 pm in the Auditorium of the North Bay Public Library. Everyone is welcome.
