The PROBUS Club of North Bay & District celebrated its 10th anniversary at its Annual General Meeting at the Shrine Club on October 4.

The PROBUS Ontario District #7 Director, Bob Middaugh, joined the celebration.

PROBUS is an international social club for men and women that aims to provide “fellowship, friendship, and fun” for more than 350,000 retirees and over 4,000 clubs worldwide.

"There are no requirements for fundraising and no rules for attending the regular meetings. At a time of life when it is easy to become complacent our clubs encourage healthy minds and bodies by socializing with other retirees in the community by arranging stimulating speakers and extra-curricular activities."

The PROBUS Club of North Bay & District started with 38 members in October 2013, under the leadership of founding President Dick Tafel.

When steady growth expanded the club to over 130 members in 2019, they started a second North Bay club, the Blue Sky PROBUS Club, in June 2019. the combined membership is now over 240.

In the words of Past President, Joan Hambley, "Meet new people. Do cool things. This is the essence of the North Bay and District Probus Club. It’s no surprise then, that the club celebrated its 10-year anniversary in October 2023. It’s a club where seniors socialize, learn, and stay active while building friendships and memories, it is priceless."

And from current President, Peter Forster, "For me, the PROBUS club is a source of both stimulation and fun. It's where I, as a retiree, cherish the chance to connect with like-minded seniors, promoting a healthy mind and body through engaging speakers and activities."
