The North Bay Regional Hospital Foundation is having a positive response already from its call out to North Bay to help stock front line hospital workers with back up PPE's (personal protective equipment) for the eventual arrival of patients suffering from COVID-19.

That list of equipment includes procedural and N95 masks, protective gloves, hand sanitizer, vented goggles, and face shields.

Tammy Morison, President of the North Bay Hospital Foundation, says the response has been great since they made the plea to the public earlier this week.

"It is going really well, certainly our community partners such as the mining industry, schools, our retailers, doctor's offices, veterinary clinics, everyone is responding to the call for PPE and the general public is responding generously as well with their financial support," said Morison.

"There are a lot of unknowns as to how this will affect us financially at the end of the day there is equipment we need to acquire to help support the frontline staff in caring for all of our patients, not just the ones with COVID-19 so we just want to make sure they have everything they need and that is where those financial donations are so important."

The mining firm Cementation was one of the first to publicly announce their donations to the cause via social media.

"Cementation will be donating PPE in the form of respirators, filters, sanitizing wipes and goggles to the North Bay Regional Hospital to help protect the staff," stated Cementation on its Facebook page.

Morison says directions as to how to donate are listed on the foundation website.  If you do not have PPE's at your home or business, they are asking residents to make financial donations.

"We have set up a website that is allowing for our community to see the exact items that we need as well as direction for getting those items to the hospital and also, equally as important, an opportunity for our community to participate by making a donation. So there is a button for PPE and one for supporting a cash donation," explained Morison.

Morison says next week the foundation hopes to recognize some of those donors.
