A narrow stretch of the northbound lanes of  Highway 11 North just south of Powassan will apparently be completed by early December according to Ministry of Transportation officials.

The Ministry has been conducting a cleanup in the area which has created a narrow one lane of the highway with the right lane blocked off with a cement barrier.  Some commuters complain the lane is very narrow and dangerous especially when the snow falls.

During a November 19 snowstorm, a snow plow ended up going into the ditch after attempting to plow through the narrow single lane.

BayToday reached out to the Ministry to find out when the project will be completed, or when the barrier will be removed.

"Following an accident, we installed a cement barrier to contain a gasoline and diesel spill on the highway," explained Aruna Aundhia, Senior Media Relations Advisor with the Ministry of Transportation.

"The environmental cleanup has taken longer than anticipated due to unforeseen circumstances.

"Work is currently anticipated to be completed and the temporary cement barrier will be removed by early December 2022."

MTO officials add they are working to address this as soon as possible and thank drivers for their patience.
