Popular northern tourist event says farewell

Last year, the Bikers Reunion donated $128,000 to the Community Cancer Care Program, making the total donated to date $1,063,000.

The 2016 Bikers Reunion will be the "Farewell" event, says the group's Facebook page today.

The popular event has hosted bikers and their families in New Liskeard over the July long weekend for the past 15 years.

The committee has raised over one million dollars for the Community Cancer Care program, that will continue to assist people in need.

"We want people to invite their family, their friends, wherever they live, to come to New Liskeard for July 1,2,3 for the biggest event ever. Thank you to Barry and Cindy Phippen, and to the entire Bikers Reunion Committee for over 15 years of dedication and extremely hard work putting on this event," reads the Bikers Reunion Facebook page.

The Bikers Reunion started in 1999 as a fundraiser for cancer and as a community event celebrating the thrill of riding motorcycles, according to their website.

In 2004, it became an annual event.

"It was moved to a bigger venue, the New Liskeard Fair grounds and after several additions and expansions become what is known as the Bikers Reunion.  Last year, the Bikers Reunion donated $128,000 to the Community Cancer Care Program, making the total donated to date $1,063,000.

"Thousands of bikers and non-bikers come to this family oriented event from all over North America, Europe and beyond. We average 6,000 bikes and 25,000 spectators at each event."

Music has always been a big draw to the event. This year, among other acts are The Eagles, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Elton John tribute bands.
