Throughout the last two weeks, Near North elementary school students had an opportunity to meet the author of a book they are currently reading in school. Well known Ontario author, Michael Wade, visited 19 schools across the district to deliver a message about the fun and importance of reading to Grades 3-6 students.

During each half day presentation, Michael focused on several key literacy concepts. He talked to students about the writing process they learn about in school and compared it to what an author does to write a book. He demonstrated the different stages involved in the writing process by sharing copies of his rough drafts, edited copies and the final product. Michael explained where his ideas come from and read a story from his current work.

“Many of our students will have read Michael’s books and it is exciting for them to meet an author they are learning about. Michael’s visits align well with our literacy goals of enhancing student learning and achievement by engaging students through his dynamic presentations,” said Director of Education Heli Vail.

Michael Wade is well known for his dynamic, humourous presentation that motivates students to become better readers and writers. Michael Wade and his wife, Laura authored the best-selling series “And Then It Happened.” More information about the author can be found at www.boysbookshelf.com.
