“It takes seconds to ensure that everyone in your vehicle is buckled up, seconds to save a life."

OPP are asking drivers to be focused while driving during the first long weekend of the year – Easter Weekend. The OPP urge motorists to drive with care and not take unnecessary risks when attempting to get to your destination.

Drivers are reminded to take those important and precious few minutes to ensure that everyone is safely buckled. You must also limit the number of occupants in your vehicle to the number of seat belts. Unbelted occupants can become projectiles during a collision and can seriously injure everyone in the vehicle.

Drivers are legally responsible for ensuring that passengers under the age of 16 are properly buckled up – in a seat belt, an appropriate child car seat or booster seat.  A properly installed child safety seat can reduce the risk of serious injury or death by as much as 75%. The number of occupants in a vehicle is limited to the number of seat belts – one person, one seat belt – it’s the law.

“It takes seconds to ensure that everyone in your vehicle is buckled up, seconds to save a life, it doesn’t get any easier than that”, states Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Ron Campbell.
