Police investigate suspicious church fire

The North Bay Police Department, with assistance from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal, is investigating a suspicious fire that took place at St. Rita's Church Thursday morning.

Fire crews were dispatched to the church on Douglas Street around 8:40am when neighbours called in to report a smell of smoke.

Upon arrival crews discovered a contained fire on the second floor of the unoccupied rectory and knocked it down quickly.

Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the scene was handed over to city police for further investigation.
