On May 27, 2016 at approximately 3:23 p.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to erratic driving complaints involving a southbound automobile on Highway 11, Temagami.
Police located the suspect vehicle on Highway 11, south of Temagami and initiated a traffic stop. While under investigation the lone occupant, a 30-year-old male driver, fled from police in his vehicle.
The driver failed to stop and continued travelling southbound. Soon following, officers were able to successfully stop the vehicle. Rene Gauthier of Durham was arrested and charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:
- Speeding – section 128 of the HTA
- Fail to stop for police – section 216 of the HTA
He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Haileybury on June 23, 2016.
