Police arrest local couple and lay drug and weapons charges

A search by police revealed significant amounts of controlled substances, as well as cash, prohibited weapons and suspected drug trafficking equipment

The North Bay Police Service has arrested and charged a man and a woman with drugs and weapons offenses. 

On August 11, the Street Crime Unit, with assistance from NBPS patrol officers, arrested two people at a business in the 700-block of Lakeshore Drive.

A search by police revealed significant amounts of controlled substances, as well as cash, prohibited weapons and suspected drug trafficking equipment.

Police seized:

  • Approximately 80 grams of suspected cocaine and approximately 22 suspected Percocet pills with a total estimated street value of approximately $9,800
  • Approximately $3,675 in cash
  • Several prohibited weapons including a compound bow & arrow, knives, BB guns, and a Conductive Energy Weapon, commonly known as a stun gun
  • Suspected drug trafficking equipment

Kristopher Lee Burton, 44, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – opioid
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Failure to comply with release order

Amber Victoria Johnston, 31, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Failure to comply with release order

Both are in custody pending a hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
