St. Joseph‐Scollard Hall
News Release

Join us for the launch of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation (OTF) and Planet in Focus Environmental (PIF) Film Festival Series presented by St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School. Ten schools were chosen from over 50 applicants from across the province. We are very pleased to announce that St. Joseph-Scollard Hall was successful in its bid to host the OTF/PIF Environmental Film Festival Series to take place on April 26 and 27.

“We are delighted to offer such a great event to our community,” said Cheryl Wootton, SJSH teacher and film fest organizer. “We feel the selection of films and speakers is timely, suitable for all ages, and perfectly aligned with the focus of our annual showcase of SJSH arts, Insights and Sounds, and our student Environmental Symposium later in the week.”

The OTF/PIF Environmental Film Festival Series is offered by the Ontario Teachers’ Federation in partnership with Planet in Focus with funding by the Ministry of Education to support teachers’ professional learning and leadership in the area of environmental education. Planet in Focus,
Canada’s preeminent Environmental Film and Video organization, is working with St. Joseph-Scollard Hall to provide the latest and most topical films and videos from across Canada and around the world. The Ontario Teachers’ Federation is the advocate for the teaching profession in Ontario and for its 160,000 teachers. OTF members are full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in all the publicly funded schools in the province—elementary, secondary, public, Catholic and francophone. Now in its 11th year, Planet in Focus hosts the Planet in Focus International Environmental Film Festival an annual event held every fall in Toronto with a mandate to encourage the creation and exhibition of a broad spectrum of films and videos exploring environmental themes that celebrate, question and establish varied ways of viewing the state of our world.

The enviro-themed week at SJSH will begin with the film festival on April 26 and 27, and will continue with the school’s annual Insights & Sounds event on Thursday, April 28, and its second annual Environmental Symposium on Friday, April 29. More information on Insights & Sounds and the Environmental Symposium will follow and will be available at www.npsc.ca.
