Marietti leads Bears past Trojans to spoil home opener

Marietti with two rushing touchdowns as Trojans split junior-senior football doubleheader at the Trojan Alumni Complex

The defending NDA senior champions got back to the win column with a 27-13 win over the West Ferris Trojans at the home opener for the Trojans on the West Ferris field on Friday afternoon. 

Bears quarterback Justin Marietti led the Bears' offence rushing for a pair of touchdowns and passing for another in the win.  

The Bears' Liam Nelles had the touchdown reception from Marietti. 

Austin Rapattoni and Carson Sagle provided the touchdowns for the Trojans. 

The win improves the Bears record to 1-1 and the Trojans fall to 0-1 to start the NDA senior football season. 

Next Thursday, the senior Trojans travel to Algonquin to face the 1-0 Barons at Algonquin. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. 

NDA Junior

In the junior half of the doubleheader, West Ferris cruised to a 56-0 victory over the upstart team from Chippewa. Both games on Friday were held at the Trojan Alumni Complex. It is the first time West Ferris has hosted football games on school grounds since 2017.

Evan Paterson led the junior Trojans with three touchdowns while Gage Campaigne powered across for two more majors.

Eric Wright returned an interception from midfield for a defensive score in what was his first competitive football game. Tye Watkins and Carson Paterson added touchdowns for West Ferris.

In NDA junior action on Thursday, St. Joseph–Scollard Hall blanked Algonquin 20–0.

Chippewa has a bye in week 2 and West Ferris hosts Algonquin on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m. and Scollard Hall travels to face Franco-CIté in Sturgeon Falls. Like Chippewa, Franco is launching a new program to compete in the NDA junior loop after some years away.
