The North Bay Literacy Council (NBLC) is celebrating their 30th anniversary by launching a calendar featuring works of art by students of local photojournalist and Canadore College instructor James Forsyth.

“We wanted to do something special, plus it’s a fundraiser and we need the money explains Jane Jackson, NBLC Executive Co-ordinator.

“We approached Jim and asked if he was interested in taking on a project,”

Much to her delight Forsyth and his students said yes, and once again Teletech stepped up to help out by sponsoring the cost of producing the calendar.

“The students each submitted a black and white photograph that tells a story of what literacy means to them."

“Teletech has been very supportive of the council since they came to North Bay ... I think because literacy is an integral part of their business,” she adds.

Jackson says she is thrilled to work with community partners and because of the generosity shown all the proceeds will go directly to the North Bay Literacy Council services in order to help area children and adults with reading, writing, math, and computer skills.

The original photos are on display at the WKP Kennedy Gallery until a wine and cheese gala September 8th, when the calendar will be unveiled. At that time original pieces will be up for auction.

Tickets for the launch party cost $20 and includes a calendar, call 494-9416 for tickets.
