Lise Paulin, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP)coordinator for Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord, has received the prestigious “S.J. “Jack” Ulan Professional Contribution Award” from the Ontario Cooperative Education Association. This award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves by making an outstanding contribution to cooperative education and other forms of experiential learning over a number of years.

Ms. Paulin’s involvement with experiential learning began in 1990 when she was asked to take on responsibility for the cooperative education program at École secondaire catholique Algonquin. Her enthusiasm and dedication to providing relevant and successful work placements to students quickly earned her a reputation with both employers and students. The program was soon attracting dozens of students, and employers were pleased to provide the necessary placements.

In 1999, Ms. Paulin became Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) coordinator for Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord. She has been active on several committees, promoting initiatives such as the Management Tool for Experiential Learning (MTEL), OYAP Coordinators’ Provincial Affiliation (OCPA), the School College Work Initiative (SCWI), Pathways for Student Success, Certification Day, Dual Credits and Specialist High Skills Majors, all of which provide students with opportunities for experiential learning. She chaired the provincial OYAP
conference held in the fall of 2009 and is currently the francophone representative on the OYAP provincial advisory committee. She has delivered “best practices” sessions to her francophone colleagues throughout the province.

At École secondaire catholique Algonquin, Ms. Paulin is known as Ms. OYAP. Her continuous dedication to providing students with a successful work experience has become legendary. It is not uncommon for Ms. Paulin to pick up a student at home to ensure that he or she is not late for an interview, a class or a work placement. Her concern for the well‐being of her students is sincere and she treats them all equitably. Her colleagues have come to know her and respect her as a teacher and a team player.

“Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord offers its congratulations to Ms. Paulin for the work which has earned her the « S.J. “Jack” Ulan award”. Her commitment to the success and wellbeing of our students helps them prepare for their future role in society”, stated Cynthia Roveda, Director of Education at Conseil scolaire catholique Franco‐Nord.

The S.J. « Jack » Ulan award was presented to Ms Paulin at the Ontario Cooperative Education Association Conference which was held at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls at the end of April.
