Canadore College Student Governor and ousted Canadore Student Representative Council (CSRC) president, Meaghan Byrnes, gave her final report at the Board of Governors meeting Tuesday, deciding to move on with her life following the result of her appeal.

Byrnes was appealing the Wednesday November 8th decision by CSRC executives to remove her from office on the grounds of habitual lateness for scheduled office hours and non-performance of duties in accordance to her work plan.

“My appeal process was not accepted,” states Byrnes.

“I received a letter from Todd Fearnley, General Manager of CSRC and the Student Centre, stating that it wasn’t accepted and it wasn’t going to the tribunal board.”

Byrnes says her appeal wasn’t rejected on the merit of the case because she had several people help her with the process to ensure the appeal would be heard.

“There are a couple of reasons he identified, one being I didn’t hand in my appeal form to him, I handed it in to the office assistant … just ones like that… it wasn’t written on a separate sheet of paper … and things like that.”

The ousted president says she can appeal the decision. However, when asked if she would take that step, Byrnes said she was tired of the fight and needs to move forward on starting a career.

“No, because my deadline was the 15th, and I don’t feel I would be treated fairly in that appeal, because I was already turned down for my appeal once,” she says.

“So, what’s the sense of repeating everything all over again when I knew my appeal was fine?”

Byrnes says she will be leaving the city to pursue employment opportunities following the holidays.

Meanwhile, things have heated up on the NUSU side of the Student Centre, as ousted NUSU president, Kyle Marsh, awaits his turn to appeal his removal from office.

Reports today indicate that the General Manager, Todd Fearnley, has hired a lawyer to defend his reputation.

It is reported that Fearnley’s lawyer has accused Marsh, Kyra Knapp, NUSU's vice-president external, and others of leading a smear campaign against the manager and issued a ‘cease and desist’ letter in November.

Fearnley was unavailable for comment.
