This past Thanksgiving Day Weekend, the North Bay OPP cluster (which includes North Bay, Mattawa, and Powassan OPP Detachments) joined police services from across Canada for Operation IMPACT. The program ran between noon local time on Friday, October 6th through until midnight local time, Monday, October 9th, 2006.

The three (3) key areas of concern that officers focused on was: Use of occupant restraints including children and infants, Impaired driving, and all aspects of Aggressive driving behaviour.

A total of 51 traffic related moving violations charges (aggressive driving) were handed out. This included speeding and careless driving charges. 36 people were charged with seatbelt violations. There were 8 other Highway Traffic Act Charges handed out, as well, during the Thanksgiving weekend. As far as Alcohol, there was only 1 12-hour suspension during the initiative period. Police investigated a total of 10 motor vehicle collisions. 2 were personal injury collisions (minor injuries) and 3 involved wildlife. Alcohol was not a factor in any of the collisions.
