At approx. 4:15 pm, 31 July 2005, North Bay OPP responded to a serious motor vehicle collision, just west of the Lookout. The highway was closed for approximately six hours while police investigated the collision. In total five persons were taken to hospital.

Police are reporting that a westbound 2005 Hyundai was forced to take evasive action to avoid a head on collision with an eastbound green Ford Windstar passenger van with a partial Ontario marker of “648 ***” that was in the process of passing another eastbound vehicle. As a result of this evasive action the Hyundai ended up veering into the eastbound lane where it was struck by another eastbound vehicle. (a Dodge passenger van).

The only two passengers in the Hyundai have died as a result of their injuries. Deceased are Kimberly OANCIA (age 40), of Sudbury and Melanie SAVORD (age 15) of North Bay. The driver of the Hyundai, Brian DUGAS (age 37) of Sudbury remains in serious condition at Sudbury General hospital. The driver and only passenger of the Dodge passenger van was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Police are requesting that anyone who may have information with regards to the collision, or the green Ford Windstar van is asked to contact the North Bay OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
