OPP see disturbing trend with drinking and driving offences

At approximately 10PM 26June2009, Cst Bellemare of the Almaguin Highlands OPP Det had opportunity to stop a motor vehicle on Hwy 11, in the Twp of Armour. An odour of alcohol was present and a roadside test administered to the vehicle driver.

Charged with Driving with over the legal limit of alcohol is Sylvain LaFerriere, 29yrs of Brampton.

29June2009

At approximately 4PM 29June2009, Cst St Denis of the Almaguin Highlands OPP Det was dispatched to a single motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Ontario St and Tower Rd. in Armour Twp. Investigation at scene determined that the vehicle driver had been drinking.

Charged with Impaired Driving and Drive over the legal limit of alcohol is Murray Ticknor 68yrs of Ryerson Twp.

01July2009

At approximately 12 noon, Cst. Kent of the Almaguin Highlands OPP Det was dispatched to the Blue Roof restaurant in Sundridge. On scene the officer identified and stopped a suspicious vehicle prior to its departure. On investigation at scene it was observed that the driver was impaired.

Charged with Impaired driving and Failing to provide a sample of breath is David Church 29yrs of Ajax.

02July2009

At approximately 1:40AM, Cst. Maki of the Almaguin Highlands OPP Det while on general patrol had opportunity to stop a motor vehicle while travelling on High St in the Village of Burks Falls. Investigation at the vehicle resulted in the arrest of the driver.

Charged with Driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol is Dustin Lawrence 22yrs of Armour Twp.

To date in 2009, the Almaguin Highlands OPP have charged as many people, forty-five, with drinking and driving offences as they had in all of 2008. Obviously that is a very disturbing trend and some people are not getting the message. The OPP remind motorists to be responsible and drive according to the law in all instances.
