OPP officers assaulted as man barricades himself inside a car with a weapon

Officers removed the accused from the vehicle and an altercation ensued

Temiskaming OPP officers were assaulted investigating a "heated" domestic dispute yesterday morning in Temiskaming Shores.

Police say an individual "broke into a residence and caused damage prior to fleeing with a weapon." 

"The accused was located shortly after 9:30 a.m. barricaded inside a vehicle with a knife," says Constable Jennifer Smith. "Officers removed the accused from the vehicle and an altercation ensued, resulting in the officers being assaulted."

The officers were not injured. 

A 29-year-old resident of Temiskaming Shores has been arrested and is charged with:

  • Two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking
  • Resist peace officer
  • Assault peace officer
  • Break, enter a place - commit an indictable offence
  • Mischief under $5,000

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice today in Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP say it will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
