OPP officer dives in to rescue 12 year old from cold river

A 12-year-old boy is safe today after being pulled from the Wabi River in Temiskaming Shores yesterday.

It happened at 7:15 p.m. when the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call involving a missing 12-year-old boy in crisis.

Officers found the child under a bridge.

While officers were talking to the boy he fell into the cold water and swift current of the Wabi River. 

"Officers jumped into the water and the boy was successfully rescued," said Constable Sandro Cave. "Neither the officers nor the boy sustained any injuries."

The youth was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital.
