Temiskaming Detachment OPP officers responded to a float plane crash Saturday morning shortly after 10:30 a.m.

The accident occurred in the north end of Gillies Lake, also known as Mud Lake, in Coleman Township south of Cobalt.

The 70-year-old male pilot from Cobalt was trying to take off in his aircraft when the plane experienced mechanical problems according to Constable Jennifer Smith. "The pilot directed the plane towards the lake and landed abruptly causing damage to the plane."

The pilot and the two passengers were not injured and were rescued by a civilian boater. The plane was towed to the nearby docks.

The Transportation Safety Board and the Ministry of the Environment have been notified and are assisting with this investigation.

The Coleman Fire Department and the Temiskaming District Emergency Medical Services also responded.
