OPP: Driver with open liquor hit with charges after traffic stop

The driver from North Bay was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days

LAURIER TOWNSHIP, Ont. — One person was arrested and charged with impaired driving after the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop.

On Feb. 7, 2024, shortly after 9:50 p.m., members of the Almaguin Highlands OPP conducted a traffic stop on Goreville Road in the Township of Laurier.  

Upon speaking with the driver, the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Riley Martin, 34, of North Bay was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, in Sundridge.

The driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
