ORILLIA - Today, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) mourns the loss of York Regional Police Constable Garrett Styles, who was killed in the line of duty while conducting a traffic stop on Highway 48 in the Town of East Gwillimbury.

Early this morning, this young officer, a married father of two young children, succumbed to his injuries in what is truly a senseless tragedy.

There are absolutely no words to help ease the pain caused by the loss of Constable Styles.

Law enforcement officers share the vow to serve and protect the citizens of our communities.

The Ontario Provincial Police knows all too well the pain and sense of loss caused by such an on duty death.

It is evident through this death that no traffic stop should be looked upon as being "routine."

"As commissioner of the OPP, I have offered the York Regional Police our full support and access to our resources during this time of profound sorrow and loss. I take this opportunity to thank our members who are assisting for their professionalism and dedication to duty. Sadly, at this time, we stand together to share tremendous grief, and are reminded of the dangers we face each day in the performance of our duties."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Styles' family and with the York Regional Police at this time.
