OPP arrest 5 individuals in association with 40 Break & Enter cases

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers with the North Bay Detachment cluster, North Bay Crime Unit, Temagami Detachment and the North East Rural Agricultural Crime Team (RACT) have investigated numerous Break, Enter and Thefts to seasonal properties in North Bay, Mattawa, Powassan and Temagami area including several townships in between.

As a result of a lengthy investigation five individuals were arrested and charged with 100 offences dating back to 2008. Four appeared for a bail hearing on May 27, 2011 and one is scheduled to appear in North Bay for court on June 28, 2011. Investigation is still ongoing under the direction of the North Bay Crime Unit with the assistance of the North East RACT.

James Ross SWACKHAMMER, 43 years old, North Bay
 9 x Break, Enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
 28 x Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(b) CC;
 1 x Adult Break & Enter a place and steals a firearm as per s.98 (1)(b) CC.

Shane Arthur DEMERS, 24 years old, North Bay
 8 x Break, Enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
 34 x Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(b) CC;
 1 x Adult Break & Enter a place and steals a firearm as per s.98(1)(b) CC

Jason LUXTON, 26 years old, North Bay
 6 x Break, Enter a place - with intent to commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
 19 x Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(b) CC

Jasper CHEVRIER, 18 years old, North Bay
 Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence as per s. 348(1)(b) CC;
 Adult Fail to comply with Undertaking or Recognizance as per s. 145(3) CC

Dean DESCHENE, 53 years old, Commanda Township
 Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 as per s.354 (1) CC
