The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Source for Sports team up to help needy Northern Ontario youths play hockey this winter and help them to stay drug free.

Starting on Monday, August 29th and running for two weeks, Source for Sports/Skaters Edge in seven Northern Ontario communities will be conducting a used hockey equipment donation drive in support of less fortunate children.

Paul Harrison, OPP North East Region DARE coordinator and a former NHL goaltender, says that playing hockey is the original drug prevention program in Canada and the perfect positive alternative to drug abuse. He encourages anyone with gently used hockey gear to visit their participating store to make a donation so that everyone can play.

Participating stores include Timmins, Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Temiskaming Shores, Fort Francis and Kenora. The equipment will be collected and distributed to needy children in northern communities courtesy of Air Creebec and Tisdale Bus Line.
