Yesterday, the organizers of Operation Red Nose held a little gathering to recognize and thank the volunteers that participated in the 2006 program.

In her remarks, Denyse DeBernardi thanked everyone who made the 2006 campaign such a success, including all the volunteers, the sponsors and the clients. DeBernardi said, “It was definitely the fact that everyone worked as a team that ensured such incredible results!”

“The total number of rides surpassed the goal set at 300, reaching a total of 436, a major increase compared to the 281 done in December 2005,” stated DeBernardi.

Operation Red Nose proudly presented a cheque in the amount of $5,090.61 to Claude Deschatelats, Chairman of the Board of Le Centre ALEC du Nipissing's Family Literacy Program "J'ÉduPlaisir à grandir avec mon enfant".

In her comments, DeBernardi said, “We were expecting a total of 300 volunteers, but came in short with a total of 212, a slight increase from the 200 registered in 2005. The lack of volunteers was particularly felt on New Year's Eve, with the number of rides requested being higher than expected.”

Deschatelats commented on the value of the donation. It allows the community to contribute to the Family Literacy Program and complements the government funding they receive. He also thanks all the staff and volunteers for their help and commitment to the Operation Red Nose Program.
