A tentative agreement on a five year contract has been reached today between the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission and the United Steelworkers Union Local 1976.

“We are very pleased by the leadership shown by our organization and Local 1976 USW to reach a tentative agreement,” said Corina Moore, Interim President and CEO in a news release Friday afternoon.

“Transformation is underway and our unions and employees have an important and vital role in shaping a sustainable future for Ontario Northland. This tentative agreement will provide stability to Ontario Northland and Local 1976 USW.”

“It’s a fair agreement, said Ron Marleau, VP of District 6 for TC Local 1976 of the United Steelworkers. “A five year deal will provide stability and security for our members.”

Local 1976 USW represents 100 employees working in the areas of rail traffic control, customer service and sales, and train operations (Locomotive Engineers and Conductors).

Details of the five year contract will be presented to the membership at upcoming ratification meetings over the next few weeks.
